Future goals... Win the Daytona 500!! Don't laugh, I know it seems like a long shot. However, if I can get a good sponsor I would have a chance to start off in the ARCA series (or another beginner series). I can prove myself and move my way up to Busch and then to NEXTEL Cup. I already have a standing offer from one of the NEXTEL Cup legends to drive one of his cars for him and his team in the ARCA series, I just need a sponsor. Sounds pretty simple, huh? I have taken two different asphalt racing schools and passed them easily. The first one was Buck Baker Racing School at Rockingham "The Rock." Before I was done I was bouncing off the rev limiter and getting bored @ 133mph. Just saying! I believe the record there is 148mph by Rusty Wallace in a Cup car. The second school I went to was Randy Briggs School in a USAC asphalt sprint car at Hickory Motor Speedway. After half an hour the instructor told me I was running times to start in the top 5 of the last race there. A little while later the instructor was showing me some better lines on the track. We started racing pretty hard and I saw he was getting pretty loose coming out of turn 4 so I backed off a car length. A couple laps later he spun out, I moved up a lane and went on by. I went to those schools to see if I even liked driving asphalt before pushing forward with my life dream. Once I learned the right line driving was just as easy as dirt, though I know that in a race I won't have the perfect surroundings like at the school. While I like asphalt and dirt the same, I have not yet raced on asphalt. From what I have seen there are a small amount of drivers that have the heart and determination to go all the way, the rest seem to be there simply because they can. If I have the resources I need, I only have to concentrate on a few drivers; it's simple as that!! I admire, respect, and am trying to learn from the heart, knowledge, and determination of the late Dale Earnhardt. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way trying to compare myself to him. I am about half the size of a gnats behind compared to Dale, but someday I'll be the size of two gnats and so on!! |
